Your Summer Guide to Pittsboro & Chatham County, NC: June & July 2026

If you haven't spent a summer evening in Pittsboro, you're missing one of the most charming corners of the North Carolina Piedmont. Nestled in Chatham County just southwest of the Research Triangle, this small town punches well above its weight when it comes to outdoor adventures, live music, local food, and one-of-a-kind experiences. Whether you're a Triangle local looking for a day trip or a visitor passing through, June and July 2026 are a wonderful time to explore everything this area has to offer.

Free Friday Nights at Bynum Front Porch

If you do only one thing on this list, make it a Friday night in Bynum.

The Bynum Front Porch Summer Music Series is a true Chatham County treasure. Every Friday evening from 7:00–8:30 PM, through the end of August (with the exception of July 3), free concerts take place outside the old Bynum General Store at 950 Bynum Road. The shows are free — though a pith helmet gets passed to help support the musicians. Expect fireflies, fairy lights, food trucks, lawn chairs, kids dancing barefoot in the grass, and music ranging from old-time string bands to blues, Americana, and more. The whole thing feels less like a concert and more like neighbors gathering.

Bynum is celebrating 25 years of this beloved tradition in 2026 — a milestone worth raising a lemonade to. Rain or shine, the show goes on: in the event of bad weather, the performance moves inside the air-conditioned General Store.

Bonus: The venue also hosts a Tuesday Yoga series (6–7 PM, all levels welcome, suggested $15 donation) and occasional storytelling events throughout the season.

Live Music at MOSAIC at Chatham Park

Pittsboro's newest community hub, MOSAIC at Chatham Park, has become a magnet for live music and outdoor fun. This summer features two series worth knowing about:

Beach Music Series — Running through June 26, this free Saturday night series brings beach and party music to the MOSAIC event lawn at 367 Freedom Parkway. Grab a blanket and a lawn chair and enjoy the music as the sun goes down.

96.1 BBB Summer Jam Music Series — Head to the Philip H. Kohl MOSAIC Family Commons for free ticketed concerts under the stars. Performers this season include crowd-pleasers like The Castaways, The Embers, and Chairmen of the Board. Food and beverages are available on-site, and tickets are free but required — reserve yours at mosaicatchathampark.com/events.

MOSAIC Market Series — On the first Wednesday of each month through October, The Works Yard transforms into an open-air market with handmade goods, fresh produce, local art, and live music.

Farmers Markets & the First Sunday Artisan Market

Summer in Chatham County means overflowing market baskets. Two farmers markets run through the season:

  • Pittsboro Farmers Market at The Plant, 220 Lorax Lane — open Thursdays, 3–6 PM, year-round. Pick up local produce, baked goods, artisan foods, and more.

  • Chatham Mills Farmers Market at 480 Hillsboro Street — open Saturdays, 8 AM–12 PM through October. A perfect Saturday morning ritual.

On the first Sunday of every month, Hillsboro Street in downtown Pittsboro becomes a lively pedestrian market from 12–4 PM, with local art, pottery, jewelry, live music, and food trucks. It's one of the best ways to spend a lazy summer Sunday.

Jordan Lake State Recreation Area

On a hot summer day, there's no better destination in Chatham County than Jordan Lake. This massive reservoir offers 13,000 acres of water and nearly 180 miles of shoreline for boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, and picnicking. Multiple access points and marinas make it easy for families and groups to spread out and find their perfect spot. Whether you bring a kayak, a fishing rod, a paddleboard, or just a cooler and some sunscreen, Jordan Lake delivers a full summer day.

Popular swimming beaches on the lake include Seaforth Beach, Ebenezer Church Beach, and Parker's Creek Beach.

Paddle the Haw River

For something a little more adventurous, the Lower Haw River is a paddler's dream. Kayak, canoe, or tube through forest-lined banks and peaceful views just minutes from downtown Pittsboro. The river tumbles over rapids and spreads into multiple channels near the Hwy 64 bridge — a geological wonder caused by a layer of ancient Rhyolite rock. Experienced hikers can also explore the rugged trails along the Lower Haw River State Natural Area downstream toward Moose Jaw Falls.

Saturdays in Saxapahaw (Nearby!)

Just a short drive north from Pittsboro in neighboring Alamance County, the tiny mill town of Saxapahaw hosts Saturdays in Saxapahaw every Saturday from May 2 through August 29, 5–8 PM, at 1624 Jordan Drive in Graham. It's free, family-friendly, and features live music, a farmers market, and kids' activities along the Haw River. A perfect pairing with a Pittsboro weekend.
